HMS Glory Association Reunion, 2016

Bournemouth 18 to 20 March 2016

First ever reunion for son of one of the members (author of this page).

Reunion commenced with members and friends/spouses etc gathering at hotel on Friday and having drinks and dinner and renewing old friendships began.

Next morning the official business of HMS Glory Association meeting commenced at 1100 with parade of Standard and “Up Spirits” and Loyal Toast (there was even some sherry for some of the guests and some soft drinks too.). Formal agenda was followed where reports heard from officials including the webmaster on enquiries and business followed what I assume was the same for all associations with some mirth and good banter. It was a bit like a scene from the Vicar of Dibley or Handsforth Parish Council meetings. My father had said I would enjoy it! He was right. As a former local government employee and a university administrator I was used to such meetings but this experience was illuminating to say the least.

Afternoon free time and evening dinner in the hotel followed by dance and a rendition of the “Glory Anthem”. Members pictured girding their loins ready for the off.

Next morning farewells and much talk of forthcoming reunion in October, Trafalgar Day.
