‘Bad News’

Commander in Chief Mediterranean Fleet, Admiral Louis Mountbatten, came on board in 1952 in Malta and addressed the Ship’s Company and informed us of the ‘bad news’ that we would be returning to Korea and operations. He said there was ‘good news’ ,and that was that he was coming with us as far as Port Said! The crew thought they were going home!

Memorabilia

Crew members have some really interesting experiences aboard the ship and been involved in major incidents in world history. They have collected memories and memorabilia that are interest to family, friends and historians. The Website is collating these and will be publishing them to provide a history of the ship and its crew.

HMS Glory’s pilots were in danger of capture, if shot down and civilians were encouraged to help them and resist and avoid dangerous areas. This was done by dropping leaflets.

HMS Glory Association Reunions

Reunions enable old shipmates to meet and remember good and bad times. The world can be set straight and current events and politics discussed.

The formal meeting of the association commences with a parade of the Standard and the Loyal Toast. There follows a standard agenda and members contribute to the business of the Association.

In March 2016 the son of a member (the author of the new website) attended his first meeting and was introduced to its rituals and members.

HMS Glory Association new website

The HMS Glory Association has launched this new website and has used the source material from the original, which was launched in the last decade of the twentieth century. The HMS Glory Association had a Webmaster who developed the original site and this included a photographic record of the ship whilst it was in service, membership information and informed members of up coming events. It was also a site where comments and questions could be posted and members could respond.

The son of a member of the HMS Glory Association used the original site as source material and copied the information onto the new site. His father served on HMS Glory during the Korean War.

Additional pages have been added which it is hoped will enhance the site.

Comments and additional information are welcomed as the site is in development and is a memorial to the men who served on the ship.

About Us

The HMS Glory Association was established in 1988 by six former shipmates.

The Association met regularly at a wide variety of locations around the United Kingdom at a wide variety of venues including Royal British Legion associations, Navy associations, naval barracks, naval air stations and hotels.

Each meeting included a formal meeting of the HMS Glory Association where we had a standing agenda that included reports from Association members on items such as finances and the development of the Web Page.

In 2020 we suspended meetings due to the Covid Pandemic.
